There are certain things we observe at surface level only because it suits the narrative. On my Lookout Mountain Incline Railway trip, the car moves in shape towards the positioning of the tracks. The Incline Railway is quite unrealistic to say the least. The climb revealed the most intriguing moments when the train was at its steepest. My mind started playing jokes on me. It was at that moment that I realized why I take these trips. When I travel, the epiphany always comes in the unexpected moments.
One can only feel the view from the steep and not see it. Again, on surface level (Google Search), the climb is not as scary till when you are in the moment. All my mind could think of was the feeling of falling, a stomach drop and the thoughts of fear. Again all these were secondary to how beautiful the view was. How many times have we in life only observed things from the surface level, convinced ourselves it was possible, only to be found in the middle of it, fretting and panicking. The climb made me realize, the fear comes with the reward. The steep is the fear and the beautiful view is the reward. Moreover, fear often deters us from pursuing the needed goals and objectives.
These are the key things I look out for when I travel and how these experiences metaphor into our everyday choices. The shift in tracks by the train leans towards steep mountain which draws the town beneath further with the adrenaline and the landscape all summed up into a beautiful experience. The same with life, when our goals shift in direction, it is essential to know that the panic and fear also all sums up to give us a different outcome, a better one.
The Lookout Mountain Incline Railway points out that, the climb comes at a scary price but definitely worth it. In the sense that when your brain begins to flip on you mid climb that you could fall, the same moment provides a nicer experience. It is a must to switch to the less frightened part of the brain in order to finish the climb easier and smoothly. The results are going to land softly when we choose not to panic and succumb to the safer and trustworthy reaction.
